The event was a culminating activity to the month-long Philippine Heritage Month Alberta Caravan. It is organized by Diaryo Alberta Society (DAS), one of the longest-running Filipino organizations based in Calgary. The event was held in Barrio Fiesta, Calgary’s well-known Filipino restaurant. The special guest and keynote speaker were Filipino-Canadian Rechie Aileen Valdez, an elected Parliament member for Mississauga – Streetsville in the province of Ontario. MP Valdez was warmly greeted by the group leaders and was given a “White Hat” ceremony.

The event included singing performances by Calgary’s amazing singers Niña Mabugat and Allysha Nolasco. Their songs moved the audience, given their fantastic voice and the fact that both performers have medical emergencies in their respective families. “It didn’t stop them from coming to this special event,” said Marietta Pangan, Diaryo Alberta’s main organizer and Calgary’s Filipino community leader.(Alberta Filipino Community Groups Swore In Their Leaders - Global Bridge Education Placement Services. www.globalbridge-edu.com)
